One teaspoon of healthy carbon-rich soil can contain almost as many organisms as there are people on the planet, that is, close to 7 billion living things – and a greater diversity of life than the Amazonian rainforest.

What are these billions of living things in the soil – and more importantly, what do they do? What role does soil biology play in carbon sequestration and food security?
This series will discuss the key principles for rebuilding soil – be it on farms or in gardens – and explain why soil regeneration is of fundamental significance to the health and future of us all.We will emerge from the soil over this 12 part series all the way to speakers on Human Health and why soil health relates.

BIO

Pennie is an entrepreneur, communications specialist, writer, scholar, strategist, community facilitator, educator and social scientist. Coming from generations of farming families I have spent the majority of my life living and working in rural and regional communities, appreciating and understanding the dynamics of these special places and possessing intimate knowledge of the issues and challenges which face them – individually and collectively.
After graduating in Naturopathic Medicine [1984], 11 years later I was awarded a scholarship for a Masters in Business Administration. In 2003, I completed a Masters of Applied Science in Agriculture & Rural Development and Social Ecology and have worked with local, state and Commonwealth government departments, private enterprise and not-for-profit organisations during my professional career.
My research as to how language influences beliefs and behaviours has been peer-reviewed, published and applied in the agricultural sector resulting in transformations from industrialised commodity production to ecological systems. These principles and strategies are also now being applied in other situations, providing the catalyst to instigate changes in culture and creating new futures including revitalising regional areas, enhancing and valuing ecosystems, mitigating the effects of changing climates and creating secure food networks – real challenges of our time.
Fifteen years of experience in marketing, communications, event management, public relations and writing is an effective portfolio of skills to bring to any organisation with a high public profile.  I understand the importance of corporate social responsibility and actively contribute with ideas, experience and example to achieve desired outcomes.  My wherewithal to quickly assess a situation, ascertain what needs to be done with whom, and make things happen has been developed by seeking challenging opportunities in many avenues of professional and public life.
My maturity brings a holistic capacity to solve problems in complex situations and my experience to collaborate with individuals and communities delivers elegant, enduring and resourceful outcomes.  I am a thoughtful and articulate professional bringing positive energy and humour to all work environments. My leadership style is inclusive and collaborative, including mentoring people in my teams with emphasis on developing their potential and supporting their personal and professional growth.
